Winter Skin Rejuvenation
Winter weather may invoke images of being bundled up by a fire, spending time indoors, and relaxing with friends and families quietly at home, especially once the holiday season is over. We may be less stringent with our diets, or at least certainly not thinking about summer just yet. But did you know that this is the best time of year to consider laser skin rejuvenation? Getting rid of sunspots, fine lines, and improving texture with both minimally invasive or fully ablative methods are best undertaken when we are less likely to be in the sun!
What is Laser Skin Rejuvenation?
There are many different lasers out there that address different needs. At Cold Spring Plastic Surgery, we offer both IPL and Erb:Yag laser to help get your skin looking its best and brightest.
IPL, or intense pulsed light, aka the “photofacial” is a special type of treatment that specifically targets the red discoloration often associated with rosacea, as well as brown pigments in the skin associated with sun damage. Using specialized light filters, the problem areas are targeted beneath the top layer of the skin and removed, with no downtime for you! These are often done in a series of 3 treatment sessions to maximize your results.
The Erb:Yag laser is ablative, meaning that the very top layer of the skin is targeted and removed in a controlled fashion, revealing smoother, clearer, and tighter skin beneath. This treatment is excellent for those with fine to moderate lines, large pores, and rough texture. While most patients see a significant improvement after just one session, it can be repeated up to 3 times in a year for maximal effect. This procedure is associated with about 1 week of social downtime, meaning your face will be red and/or peeling for about 5-7 days. For your convenience, we carry specialized post-procedure skin care kits to help get you through the transition to more beautiful glowing skin!
Why winter?
Laser skin rejuvenation is a procedure that can be done at any time of the year, but it is more beneficial to have this done during winter.
Some advantages are:
- Less sun exposure, which will ensure that the result you get lasts.
- The ability to easily avoid the sun immediately post procedure; for best results, we recommend completely avoiding being in the sun while you are undergoing a treatment series, because these treatments might make you more sensitive to the sun’s rays.
- Fewer social engagements mean more downtime available to you, making your ability to fit in a treatment more likely, as well as the optimal time to recover when necessary.
